Structural modeling and workflow support
During the current quarter, Simona’s GeoLaB-1 stratigraphic column was tested as additional input data to refine the boundary between granite and gneiss units. At the same time, the teams worked on linking the individual workflows into a unified, robust process chain system. To this end, benchmark tests were conducted on an error-free model to verify whether the result model could be directly transferred to the subsequent simulation, whether the generated mesh met the quality criteria, and whether the extracted boundary mesh was complete and usable.

Uneven boundaries clipped by subcatchment shell.
Technical issues arose during the tests: For GemPy models with topography, clipping at the sub-basin boundaries led to irregular outer contours near the surface, which prevented the generation of a valid boundary mesh. The solution was to revert to the original GemPy output format, a voxel grid, and use a two-step clipping procedure: first, the topography, then the lateral sub-basin boundary is clipped separately. The result is a voxel-based model that meets all box requirements and whose boundary mesh can be seamlessly integrated into the subsequent simulation.
